Chelsea's Wedding Dress

Selling My Wedding Dress

Posted on

I have decided to sell my wedding dress.  It would have been fun to keep it for my future, possible daughter to play dress up in – but I felt that dragging a beautiful dress around with me while Michael and I move over and over again, wasn’t a really good idea.  Having moved twice in the past year, my feelings about what is necessary to move and what isn’t are very definitive…unless it is used on a monthly basis, it does not come!  I suppose there are a few exceptions to the rule, but a wedding dress would not be one of them.

I decided to list my dress with Preownedweddingdresses.com.  I wish I had known about this site when I was buying my dress.  Within two weeks I had several offers on the dress.  Most of which were way too low.  I don’t really want to carry this dress around with me for the rest of my life, but I’m not willing to just throw it away for nothing either.

Two days ago I received a reasonable offer and decided to take it.  Now my parents are boxing it up and shipping it for me since it is still at their house.  I’m glad that someone will be getting use out of the dress.  It really was beautiful and I loved it, but I’m happy that someone else will be getting use out of it.

Looking Back

I’ve had a few weeks to reflect  on the wedding.  Here’s a list of the things that still stick out in my mind, and therefore, must be some of the more special moments/things.

1.  The cake – my cousin Andrew baked the wedding cake and it was superb.  Not only was it beautiful and tasty, it was also a very personal gift and it made the wedding that much more special.

2. The food – ohhhhhmmmyygoshhhh it was fantastic.  We had prime rib, seafood, lobster ravioli, asparagus, and that yummy plate of cheeses and meats.  I took a little bit of everything so that I could try it all!

3.  The location – we were located right in the harbor and we had views of the lobster boats and the ocean.  It was a sunny day and guests got to enjoy a picturesque maine scene.

4. My outfit – I have to admit, when I look back at the photos, I love seeing the hair piece that I designed and the awesome cowgirl boots that I wore.  I loved my entire outfit and I wore it all night.  I danced in it for hours although I wish someone had told me how hard it is to dance in a wedding dress, people step on it and it’s kind of heavy and it makes you extremely hot!  BUT it was totally worth it because I love to dance and I love my dress.

5. The centerpieces – I know this one sounds odd, but my family designed and created my centerpieces so they stuck out in my mind. In general the personal touches meant the most to me at my wedding.

6.  Speaking of things that my family made…the favors…were also a personal touch, that only a few people at the wedding got to experience.  My mom and grandmother made chocolate truffles and covered some with coconut, others with cocoa powder and still others with peanuts.  We put them in bags with Jordan almonds (yup that just so happens to be my family’s last name so it worked out great) but they had to be kept refrigerated or in a freezer.  We put them in a fridge during the wedding and reception and then totally forgot to set them out as guests started to leave.  Which worked out perfectly because for the rest of the weekend I got to eat a ton of them! YUMMY!

7. The photographer - I had the world’s best photographer.  Kayleigh Barrett takes amazing photos.  I was blown away by our engagement session photos and then right after the wedding Kayleigh starting posting some of the wedding photos and I cannot explain to you how amazing the are.  In many, many years when Michael and I have kids, no matter where we are living I plan to return to Maine to have Kayleigh do our family pictures.  We could be in Hawaii, California, or even Japan, and I will make sure that Kayleigh is the one taking our pictures.  After the wedding was over I had lots of wonderful memories and a few gifts to take home, but the photographs will be one of the few items that we will always have.  So if your going to splurge somewhere in your budget, do it here.

8.  My boots – I know that I already mentioned my boots in the outfit section, but they really need their own place in this post.

9. The ceremony – Obviously this is the most important part of the day.  You know the part when I actually got married.  It was so important to have the right person marrying us that day and we will always remember the “old couple crossing the street” story that was told by our officiant.  Oh and the big boat honking and yelling at the little boat right which were trying to get out of the harbor, and happened to be directly behind us which was not distracting in the least bit…

10. Most importantly, I remember that it was an amazing night filled with friends, family and my wonderful husband!

P.S. to all of the future brides our there, here is a tip.  Don’t sweat the little stuff.  Things will get screwed up before the wedding and there will be very little that you can do about it.  The best thing to do is let someone else worry about it.

An hour before we were supposed to be meeting to do pre-wedding photos Michael called to tell me that -

A.  He couldn’t find the belt buckle that goes on his uniform.

B. One of the groomsmen’s tuxes was grey instead of black.

C. No one was around and he didn’t have a way to get to the location for our pictures.

But you know what, I didn’t care (except about the belt buckle which if we hadn’t of found, Michael couldn’t have worn his uniform which meant he would have been wearing jeans and a t-shirt – even then, oh well (and I also had a feeling that he would get to the wedding before the ceremony)).  Nothing really mattered except that Michael and I were physically there to get married.  And it all worked out in the end anyways.  Michael got a ride over, the groomsmen sped back to mens warehouse and was able to switch out the tux and make it back in time for pictures, and I found the belt buckle.  Go team!

Engagement Photos

Just a week before the wedding, Michael and I met up with our photographer to do an engagement shoot.  We figured that it would be nice to have some professional photos of us, where we weren’t in a uniform and wedding dress.

We even dragged the yahoos with us for a little “family portrait” session.  Here are a few of the photos.

Michael picked the spot for our session – The Wiggly Bridge, which is supposedly the world’s smallest suspension bridge.

Our photos were taken by Kayleigh Barrett, and she was fantastic, I couldn’t have asked for a better person to take our pictures.  She was super easy to talk to and funny and just enjoyable to work with.  I cannot wait to see our wedding photos!

We had to maneuver ourselves onto the rocks a few times, which was difficult at the time, but now looking at these pictures all the “poses” seem really natural.

We moved to the other side of the 103 bridge in order to take a few photos with the harbor as our backdrop.  The lobster boats were a very cool backdrop.

And finally, our family portrait with the two yahoos.

I cannot express to you how happy we are with these photos, thank you to Kayleigh for all of your hard work, these photos are absolutely outstanding!

Centerpieces

Posted on

Thursday afternoon, before the rehearsal dinner, my family got together at my grandparents house to make the centerpieces for the wedding.  We gathered 30 mason jars, a bag of raffia, a few gerber daisies and some brown fabric.

The smaller jars will filled with beach sand and a tea light candle.

The gerber daisies were taken out of their planters, and then the plant was placed inside a circular piece of fabric and placed inside large wide-mouthed mason jars.

This was the finished plants!  They turned out wonderfully.  I tried to bring one home with me, but when Michael and I stopped for lunch, one of the 4-legged yahoos plucked the flowers of the plant, so my gerber daisy is very sad-looking.
